EMPIRES, MARKETS & VOLCANIC VALLEYS

Türkiye

Türkiye works through contrast: Istanbul’s layered waterfront neighbourhoods and Cappadocia’s open valleys are connected by a short flight but deserve very different daily rhythms.

WHEN TO GO

Choose the season for your kind of trip.

April–May and September–October bring comfortable walking weather. Summer is busy and hot in Istanbul; winter is quieter and atmospheric in Cappadocia, with snow and flight disruption possible.

ROUTE LOGIC

Fewer stops. Better days.

For eight days, use Istanbul and Cappadocia as two clear bases. Add the Aegean coast, Ephesus or Pamukkale only with at least three more nights so internal travel does not overwhelm the trip.

PLACES IN CONTEXT

How the destination fits together.

01

Historic Istanbul

Sequence major monuments with timed entries, then cross the Golden Horn or Bosphorus for neighbourhood life beyond the headline sights.

02

Kadıköy

Use the public ferry and a food host to understand markets, regional dishes and contemporary Istanbul on the Asian shore.

03

Göreme valleys

Walk according to temperature, trail conditions and ability; the landscape is more rewarding away from peak coach hours.

04

Underground cities

Choose one site with a guide and discuss narrow passages, stairs and claustrophobia before descending.

WHY GO

What makes Türkiye worth travelling for.

01

Two continents in one city

Istanbul’s ferries, neighbourhoods and architecture make geography part of everyday travel.

02

Landscape shaped by people

Cappadocia connects volcanic geology with cave settlements, farming, craft and living communities.

03

Food as a route

Markets, bakeries, meze, regional home cooking and coffee offer an accessible way into local life.

ROUTE OPTIONS

Match the route to the time you actually have.

6 days

Istanbul + Cappadocia

A focused first visit with three nights in the city and two in the valleys.

9 days

Add a free city day

Give Istanbul neighbourhood depth and protect a second balloon opportunity in Cappadocia.

12 days

Add the Aegean

Use an additional flight or a slower road route for Ephesus and the coast.

TRAVEL WITH CONTEXT

Culture, food and responsible choices.

Mosques

Visit outside prayer, follow local clothing guidance and keep voices and photography respectful.

Markets

Bazaars are commercial spaces; compare quality calmly and never treat bargaining as confrontation.

Ballooning

Choose a licensed operator and value safety decisions over a promised flight or photograph.

PRACTICAL NOTES

What thoughtful travellers know.

  • Balloon flights are licensed, weather-controlled and never guaranteed.
  • Mosques require respectful clothing and may close to visitors during prayer.
  • Carry some Turkish-lira cash even where cards are common.
  • Cave hotels vary widely in stairs, ventilation and room access.
