DAY BY DAY
Your journey, one considered day at a time.
- DAY 01
Arrive Srinagar
Arrive in Srinagar and transfer to a quiet houseboat mooring. A private shikara ride introduces the lake’s floating gardens and neighbourhood life.
- DAY 02
Old city and Kashmiri food
Walk the old city with a Kashmiri storyteller, visit a papier-mâché workshop and share a multi-course wazwan lunch before an evening garden stroll.
- DAY 03
Lidder Valley to Pahalgam
Drive beside the Lidder River to Pahalgam, stopping at saffron country when in season. The afternoon follows an easy riverside trail.
- DAY 04
Aru meadow walk
Continue to Aru for a guided meadow walk chosen to match weather and fitness. A packed lunch and long pauses keep the day restorative.
- DAY 05
Transfer to Gulmarg
Travel west to Gulmarg through orchard country. Ride the first gondola phase when operating and walk back through pine forest with a mountain guide.
- DAY 06
Flexible alpine day
Keep a flexible alpine day for a longer guided walk, snow activity or a quiet morning at the lodge. The route is confirmed locally for safety.
- DAY 07 · FINAL DAY
Return Srinagar and depart
Return to Srinagar with time for a final market stop before airport transfer. Winter itineraries allow extra road time.
WHY THIS ROUTE WORKS
Designed around time, not a checklist.
Kashmir works best with weather flexibility. The route alternates valleys rather than stacking long return drives, and keeps one alpine day adaptable for gondola operations, trail conditions or a slower lodge day.
Local vehicle rules change by destination. We distinguish the private intercity car from union-operated local transfers before confirmation so the transport plan and cost are clear.
SIGNATURE EXPERIENCES
The moments that give the journey its character.
Dal Lake beyond the postcard
A private shikara introduces floating gardens and neighbourhood life before the lake becomes busy.
Old Srinagar with context
Walk wooden mosques, markets and craft workshops with a resident storyteller rather than rushing between monuments.
Aru meadow day
Choose a valley walk after checking weather, ground conditions and fitness; packed lunch and generous pauses keep it restorative.
Gulmarg with a plan B
Use the gondola when operating, with a forest walk, village visit or relaxed mountain day ready if wind closes the lifts.

Documents
Carry original government photo ID. Permit or checkpoint requirements can change, and non-Indian passport holders may need additional documentation.
Flights
Srinagar is the main gateway. Keep a generous road buffer before departure, particularly during winter or periods of heavy traffic.
Season
April–May suits blossom and fresh green; June–August brings fuller alpine access; September–October is crisp; winter requires a snow-ready plan.
Clothing
Temperatures shift sharply between lake, meadow and evening. Pack layers, rain protection and footwear with reliable grip.
A practical packing shortlist
- Government photo ID
- Warm mid-layer in every season
- Compact rain shell
- Sun protection for altitude
- Small daypack and refillable bottle
